Dr. Mutulu Shakur, stepfather to the late Tupac Shakur and known for his associations with the Black Liberation Army and Revolutionary Action Movement of the 1960s and 1970s, was convicted in 1987 and received a sixty-year prison sentence in the Southern District of New York for eight counts of racketeering. He was also accused of assisting in the escape of Assata Shakur.
Teri Thompson worked extensively in advocating for his parole at statutory interim parole hearings from 2005 through 2013. She appeared before U.S. Parole Hearing Officers numerous times, from a Georgia federal prison to Colorado’s ADX, also known throughout the world as Supermax.
